Information About Us and Our Philosophy

Anne Larvin BSc(Hons), BA(Hons), MMBA, MNIMH
Having gained a degree in Law from Durham University, I stayed in the north east and worked in industry for over 20 years - initially in the distribution industry and then the pharmaceutical industry, working in senior management roles in Customer Service and in Purchasing. I left work when my son was born so that I could look after him full-time and this gave me the opportunity to develop my deep interest in herbal medicine. I undertook a 4 year degree course to become a professionally qualified medical herbalist, which I completed in 2004, gaining a BSc degree from the University of Wales.

The more I have studied herbs and the way they work, the more fascinating I find them. Using herbs to heal is a combination of art and science - the art being the history/tradition of their use and an understanding of their energy together with the science of good diagnostic skills and herbs effect on the body and synergistic blending of herbs. It is an exciting and very rewarding career!

Jill Schnabel BSc(hons) PhD MNIMH
jill schnabel I have lived in the North-East for many years working as an adult education tutor and, prior to my herbalism training, as a commercial organic vegetable grower. I continue to teach a wide range of courses about plants, herbalism and gardening alongside my herbalist practice (see talks and courses page).

My work as a herbalist arises from a love of plants, a respect for old healing traditions and a belief that the therapeutic powers of herbs operate at many different levels. This is complemented by my strong scientific background in plant sciences.

I graduated with a degree in Herbal Medicine in 2004, having completed 4 years training with the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine in Glasgow. A key aspect of this training was 500 hours supervised experience of working with patients in a range of herbal medicine clinics in England and Scotland.

Our Philosophy

We take a holistic view of health and healing and work closely with patients to identify and treat the underlying causes of health problems. Unique individual prescriptions are prepared for each patient. We choose simple unadulterated herbal medicines that capture the vitality of the living plants. We buy high quality products most of which are organic and from UK producers.

We believe that good nutrition and a healthy digestive system play a key role in healing processes and we are trained to give nutritional advice and support. We are committed to providing herbal treatments that can complement and support orthodox treatment from your GP. Our training in medical sciences ensures that we understand about potential herb-drug interactions, and also that we know when a patient should be referred to their doctor.
